I cut up the book covers into smaller pieces subtracting the text, put all these smaller images in one folder on my computer, and I input this content into Photoshop's Photomerge algorithm. I used content from 100+ different books chopped up as input for this project. Each plate also features a Popular Highlight from a romance novel on Kindle. I print these landscapes on porcelain commemorative plates. Because the covers are so similar, the algorithm often finds areas that it believes should overlap. After scanning all of the covers, I apply Photoshop's Photomerge feature (originally intended to stitch together photos to make panoramas) to the images to produce dreamy, hybrid landscapes. For this ongoing series of work, I combine popular algorithms with traditional romance novels.
